After being abandoned for 20 years the mill and dam had deteriorated badly. Between 1997 and 1999 generous donations from individuals and South Nation Conservation rebuilt the dam, completed major masonry and timber restoration and installed a new roof.
In 2001 the exterior of the mill took a step back in time to the early 1900s when the loading dock was replicated by Algonquin College students.
Since 1999 the park has been maintained by volunteers. The addition of washrooms and an easy access ramp were made possible by a grant from the Ontario Trillium Foundation.
Restoration of the turbine, development of the first exhibits in the lower level, and construction of a garden water wheel and pavilion in the park were completed in 2007.
These projects were completed through the assistance of private donations, the Spencerville & District Winter Festival, Brockville Community Foundation, a generous community and volunteers.
Plans for the Future:
Continue restoration and preservation of the Spencerville Mill and Park.
As more areas are opened to the public new exhibits will be developed.
